Marjorie P. Gelfond, CCM professor MOUNT OLIVE -

Marjorie P. Gelfond died Saturday at Morristown Memorial Hospital after a three-year battle with breast cancer. She was 44. She was born in Long Branch and lived in Denville and Madison before moving to Flanders 20 years ago.

Mrs. Gelfond was a professor of psychology at County College of Morris in Randolph for 20 years. She was also a practicing psychologist in Morris County and had numerous articles published, including many on the subject of agoraphobia in women. She received bachelor's and master's degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a Ph.D. in environmental psychology from the City University of New York. She was a member of the American Psychological Association and the Association of Women in Psychology. She was past president of the Morris County Mental Health Association and she belonged to the Research Advisory Board of St.Clares-Riverside Medical Center in Denville. She also served as consultant to the Morris County Hotline and Riverside Hospice.

Survivors include her husband, Richard S.; a daughter, Carlen D., at home; her father, Harold Edelstein of Oakhurst; a brother, Stephen P. Edelstein, and a sister, Nori J. Edelstein, both of New York City.

She was predeceased by her mother, Ruth Goldwasser Edelstein. Arrangements are by Louis Suburban Chapels, 70 Hudson St., Dover.
