Harold "Pudgy" Cooper was born to the late Harold Cooper and Frances

Carter Cooper on December 19, 1947 in Long Branch, New Jersey.  He was predeceased by his Mother and Father.  He departed this life on May 28, 2019.  Pudgy graduated from the Long Branch Public School System in 1965.  He briefly attended Monmouth College and Brookdale Community College and realized it wasn't the path he was going to take.  He was employed by the Long Branch Board of Education in 1989, in the positions

of Instructional Assistant and school bus driver.  He left the Board in 1994 and he worked for Seashore Day Camp.  He came back to the Board of Education in 2003 and retired in 2016.  He lived briefly in Winter Haven, Florida.

Pudgy was a political and social activist.  He regularly attended City Council meetings, never afraid to challenge the status quo.  He spoke his mind at all times never mincing his words but always being respectful while doing so.  Being well read in African American history, he seemed to always favor conversations around that topic.  He advocated for any and all young people.  He loved every child he came in contact with and they loved him.  He served as a father figure for many young men and women in the community.  In addition, he fostered children from 1996-2016 in both New Jersey and Florida.  One of his daily enjoyments was watching the game of "Jeopardy" able to answer numerous questions in most categories.

Psalm 37:23 states "The steps of a man are ordered by the Lord, and He delighteth in this way." This Scripture describes Pudgy's journey on this earth.  God ordered his steps and he touched many lives in the City of Long Branch.

Pudgy leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters: Cassundra Hart Smith (Tyrheem) Long Branch, and Maya John son; Three siblings: Donna Perreira (Winston), Long Branch, Hollis Cooper-Long Branch, Lisa Cooper - New York; four grandchildren: Tiyana, Tariq, Star and Sha-Juan, Long Branch; one great grandson: Devin, Long Branch; a wonderful Aunt and Uncle, Mary and Chester Cooper of Neptune; Andrea Blueford, Goddaughter, Long Branch; Dyquan, Long Branch, a host of  nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews.
